Navigating the Truth

Today's testimony by FBI Director James Comey and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence debunked President Trump's claim that Obama had directed that he be wire-tapped.

The two directors explained that while investigations into the Russian-Trump connection, including collusion, is ongoing, they cannot provide any details. Furthermore, they must protect national security secrets in the process which precludes their being mum to most questions.

"FBI Chief: Justice Department has no information that supports Trump's tweets alleging he was wiretapped by Obama
President Trump accused former President Barack Obama earlier this month of wiretapping Trump Tower in New York during last fall's campaign. He later indicated he had no solid evidence to support that assertion, saying he saw it referenced in news reports."

This hearing focused on the specific accusation by Trump about wire-tapping. The greater issues about Trump's Emolument Clause Violations and Misprision may well lie in the on-going investigations.

That does not preclude Democratic Leaders and independent organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union from proceeding with legal actions.

The President's lying is a federal crime. He lied and slandered former President Obama, among hundreds of other lies, all of which are crimes.

  1. It is apparent that the Republican Party intends to draw the wagons into a circle to protect their President. That is akin to obstruction of justice. They will nuance and attempt distract as that is what their leader does. In the end, the facts will lead to the termination of the Trump Presidency and maybe more.
