Staffing is the first Presidential Task

Trump blew it. In my book, How to Select an American President by James A. George with James A. Rodger (c) 2017 Archway Publishing, I presented the President's Job Model and the six primary tasks. The first task is to staff the executive branch. That means the President must have qualified experience vetting and selecting candidates. It is not a reality television show. It is a complex process to staff the executive branch.

President Trump selected Paul Manafort to be his campaign chairman. He also selected Michael Flynn to be his National Security Advisor. He selected a crop of bogus persons for other offices, witness the Department of Education Director. He is a staffing disaster.

However, the actual disaster is that Donald Trump knowingly or unwittingly was compromised by persons dealing with Russians with the intent to infiltrate and influence US-Russian foreign policy and possibly many other things that are best categorized as corruption. His going along may be due to his being blackmailed, or just being delusional about his power.

“President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, secretly worked for a Russian billionaire to advance the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin a decade ago and proposed an ambitious political strategy to undermine anti-Russian opposition across former Soviet republics, The Associated Press has learned. The White House on Wednesday acknowledged the AP’s revelations had ‘started to catch a lot of buzz’ but brushed them aside, though some members of Congress expressed alarm. Manafort proposed in a confidential strategy plan as early as June 2005 that he would influence politics, business dealings and news coverage inside the United States, Europe and the former Soviet republics to benefit the Putin government, even as U.S.-Russia relations under Republican President George W. Bush grew worse…. White House spokesman Sean Spicer indicated Wednesday that President Trump had not been aware of Manafort’s work on behalf of Deripaska.” [AP]

  1. If Trump coordinated or colluded with Russians, that is treason and punishment may be loss of life. That is how serious this is.
