Analysis versus conjecture

America is in the midst of the greatest crisis in its history. However, people don't see it coming or are not doing much to prevent the deteriorating democracy. The job picture and economy are ok, so what's to worry?

Here is a list, but let's begin with the top story.

Americans, you and I, launched an attack on Syria last night with cruise missiles that destroyed 22 Syrian aircraft and an associated military base. It was the location from which Bashar al-Assad launched a sarin chemical weapons attack on his citizens.

The justification for the assault is that chemical weapons are outlawed by international agreement. The Syrians were warned before to destroy their chemical stockpile. The Russians "volunteered" to supervise that operation. That's like the fox guarding the hen house.

The Russians are protecting Assad because they do business with Syria and are using it as a strategic location.

Russians are no friend or ally of the United States, although President Trump may have wanted to change that. Either he was duped by the Russians, overly optimistic, or has conflicts of interest. The investigations by the NSA, FBI, and Treasury Departments are ongoing.

While Donald Trump is performing as commander-in-chief, he remains as an unstable character with a legacy of worrisome problems and deficiencies.

Meanwhile, the Republican-controlled Congress is conflicted in conducting investigations into Donald Trump. Leaders of both chambers have committed acts that might be described as obstructing justice.

To get Justice Gorsuch seated on the Supreme Court, the Senate changed the rules so that a simple majority is all that is needed to approve nominations. That changes the dynamic that was prescribed by the Founding Fathers and further undermines the American Political System.

Democracy is under assault by the Executive Branch and Congress while the nation embarks on acts of war without a declaration of war as prescribed by the Constitution.

Congress would rather head to Spring break than to address these crucial matters at a time when Democracy is under siege in America.

That is news analysis in the absence of conspiracy theories about Trump's motivations.
