Time to Get 2024 Straight

Barely. I am resurrecting How to Select an American President with a new and improved edition. It will include candidate assessments of emerging and apparent presidential candidates and possible Vice President selections.

Both political parties need resets. Democrats and Republicans have little time to scrub the list. I will describe what should be the way forward. I invite my friends and followers to participate in my creation of a new version by the end of January 2023.

All aboard. Please send your questions and comments with your permission to use them.

Sincerely,

Jim George

America Is Losing the Energy Game

I have been thinking about electric cars, Tesla, and Elon Musk. I am glad we now have lithium battery technology, though we have gone overboard already. Lithium is reclaimable, though a scarce element, nonetheless. The U.S. accounts for only four percent of the world's lithium resource, and China has a corner on battery production. Australia is the primary source of minable lithium, with eighty percent.

I have known for years that Japan is interested in hydrogen power. Then, today, I searched to discover that Aramco is all over it. Who is Aramco?

The Saudi government controls Aramco.

"In 1973, the Saudi government bought a 25% interest in Aramco, increasing that interest to 60% the following year. In 1980, the Saudi government increased its stake in Aramco to 100%.

"We are one of the world's largest integrated energy and chemicals companies, creating value across the hydrocarbon chain and delivering societal and economic benefits to people and communities around the globe who rely on the vital energy we supply." Aramco

As an American, I am uncomfortable with the emerging specter in which Aramco controls our future. Nor do I accept billionaire capitalists controlling it either, nor authoritarian dictators.

Once again, I see the United States is asleep at the wheel.

"China is the largest producer of hydrogen today, at about 25 million tons (Mt), or roughly a quarter of the global total. Most of the volume is produced from fossil fuels (60 percent from coal and 25 percent from natural gas) as feedstocks in refineries or chemical facilities."

General Motors is doing something.

"GM will produce HYDROTEC fuel cell systems using globally sourced parts at its Fuel Cell Systems Manufacturing joint venture with Honda in Brownstown, Michigan. Renewable Innovations will produce the trailer-based MPG and the larger, modular EMPOWER rapid charger at their facilities in the Salt Lake City metro area."

"Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is working with Ford Motor Company on a demonstration project to reduce commercial fleet emissions by developing a F-550 Super Duty Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Truck. This collaboration is part of the US Department of Energy's (DOE) SuperTruck 3 program, which aims to reduce emissions significantly in medium- and heavy-duty trucks."

The best the U.S. Department of Energy has is a draft.

Legislative Language This draft report responds to the legislative language set forth in section 40314 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Public Law 117-58), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, specifically that which amends Title VIII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT-2005) by adding Section 814 - National Clean Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap. Section 814 states:

While U.S. citizens are flailing away with half the nation tearing up the Democratic Republic, our Congress is stuck in the mud without a viable way forward.

The Saudis and Chinese will eat our lunch.

For Candidates to Win

Like most Americans with an in-box, I am overwhelmed with crybaby appeals for money from my party's candidates. I told them repeatedly I am retired and am not making donations. Then, they sent an email saying my dead dad had given.

Unbelievable. I ask the party's upper echelons to read my books and the best ideas and guidance I can offer. Nada. They reply, asking for more money.

If you want to win an office, visit your constituents with your ideas. See them face-to-face and often. Too late now, you losers.

Republicans will kill American democracy, and your deficient campaigning and leadership helped them.

Defrocking the Republican Party

All political parties in the United States are corporations. The law governing them is mainly concerned with how they generate revenue and how they account for it such that it is exempt from taxation. That narrow scope is part of the problem.

Political organizations must be accountable and liable for what they say and for the candidates and management members bearing their political brand.

  1. First, they must tell the truth, backed and defended by facts.
  2. Second, the individuals bearing their brand must be vetted regarding their resumes and character.
  3. Third, the parties must swear an oath of allegiance to the U.S. Consitution and the rule of law.

I submit that the Republican Party has failed on three counts and can debate that. If readers wish to discuss the status of the Democratic Party, I will also engage that.

The political history of the U.S. is complete, with many examples where political parties had to reconstruct themselves. Now, is another such moment. Please read my book: How to Select an American President: https://capture.dropbox.com/Ch2kMgYVk225dAtN.

"Political parties; campaign committees for candidates for federal, state or local office; and political action committees are all political organizations under IRC § 527. Among other requirements, most tax-exempt political organizations must file periodic reports on Form 8872 with the IRS."

If you want the details, 26 U.S. Code § 527 - Political organizations are explained by the Cornell Legal Institute: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/527

"What is 'Exempt Function"? IRC 527(e)(2) defines 'exempt function' as 'the function of influencing or attempting to influence the selection, nomination, election, or appointment of any individual to any Federal, State, or local public office or office in a political organization, or the election of Presidential or Vice-Presidential electors, whether or not such individual electors are selected, nominated, elected, or appointed.'"
