Trump's last 100 days in office

Is it too soon to write the obituary for Donald Trump's illegitimate presidency? How might Donald Trump's last 100 days in office appear? For one thing, it will be a Constitutional crisis of monumental proportion. However, as I have written in anticipation many times, the rule of law will prevail. First, follow the evidence that includes following the money.

A trail of smoke followed the Trump train on the way to The White House. When the train stopped, smoke thickened in and around the historical place. Helicopters and jets came and went from Washington to Florida with turbulent vapor trails ever present.

Republicans in the House where impeachment must be initiated have shored up to defend their President from investigations and transparency. Actions by Speaker Ryan can be appealed to the court as being obstruction of justice and conflicts of interest that include attempting to shield themselves from prosecution by passing laws with protection clauses.

Part of the last 100 days in office will be consumed by legal appeals to force the House to initiate impeachment resulting from a preponderance of the evidence.

The evidence is widely distributed among the FBI, Treasury, and National Security Agencies where former President Obama took action to preserve it in anticipation that hostile entities might seek to destroy it. Part of the evidentiary thread includes the trails to Russians and the links to Donald Trump's campaign associates, businesses, and friends.

All the while, the weakest link in the pursuit of justice is Donald Trump. His ever blabbing and classic misdirection bubbles with actionable information among all of the noise intended to distract.

Donald Trump's blaming others and inventing enemies is the act of directing people to the wrong place or in the wrong direction. That includes trying to change the subject.

The fact is that the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader have been incorporated into the President's sinister attempt to protect himself from prosecution. That makes it necessary for a series of recusals to happen.

One of the first recusals is that of Jeff Sessions, the newly appointed Attorney General.

The fights by elected officials to sustain their positions in the protocol chain as prescribed by the US Constitution may be fierce. The battles may be quickened to a conclusion by 1) well prepared prosecuting attornies and by 2) a Court that is willing to achieve justice in the matter to preserve national integrity.

"Jeff Sessions Joins Four Others In Donald Trump Cabinet Caught Lying To Senate
Donald Trump was enjoying the glory of pundits giving him a pat on the back for, basically, not yelling during his lie-riddled address to Congress. And that enjoyment lasted not quite 24 hours before the next bombshell story hit. Attorney General Jeff Sessions had been in contact with Russia multiple times during the campaign while being an advisor to Trump, then lied about having any communications with Russian officials during his confirmation hearing. Incredibly, Sessions is now the fifth cabinet member known to have lied to the Senate during his confirmation, joining Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
Last night, the Washington Post broke the story that Jeff Sessions had two contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the campaign. Kislyak is the same Russian official former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn had contacts with that eventually led to his disgraceful removal. When Sessions was asked by Senator Al Franken about Trump campaign contacts with Russian officials, he stated “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians”.
Sessions denied he discussed the campaign with Russian officials in a statement last night.
EPA head Scott Pruitt was asked during his hearing whether he had ever conducted any official business as Oklahoma Attorney General using personal email accounts. He replied, “I use only my official OAG [Office of the Attorney General] email address and government issued phone to conduct official business”. The Oklahoma AG’s office later confirmed Pruitt had, in fact, used his personal email to conduct state business. Pruitt was confirmed a week before the revelations.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin was asked whether his company OneWest had ‘robo-signed’ – i.e. signed without properly reviewing – documents relating to foreclosures and evictions. He stated “OneWest Bank did not ‘robo-sign’ documents, and as the only bank to successfully complete the Independent Foreclosure Review required by federal banking regulators to investigate allegations of ‘robo-signing,’ I am proud of our institution’s extremely low error rate”. Court documents and testimonies by former employees confirmed his company had engaged in the act.
Along with questions about his stock purchases, HHS Secretary Tom Price was caught lying during his confirmation about a sweetheart stock deal he received related to Innate Immunotherapeutics Ltd. Price stated the discounted shares “were available to every single individual that was an investor at the time”. It was later revealed fewer than 20 U.S. investors were offered the deal and the opportunity came about “from an invitation from a company director and fellow congressmen”.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was asked if she sat on the board of her mother’s foundation while it was donating millions to anti-LGBT groups. She responded “I do not” sit on the board while pointing out she was not a part of the decision-making process of the foundation. Intercept reporter Jeremy Scahill posted tax documents showing DeVos was listed as a Vice President for the foundation. He also pointed out the excuse DeVos gave was completely preposterous.

Scoring Oprah Winfrey as Presidential Candidate

Applying the approach from my new book, How to Select an American President by James A. George with James A. Rodger (c) 2017 Archway Publishing, here is my evaluation of Oprah Winfrey as a candidate.

Spoiler: Oprah waved off talk about her entering politics many times. Her reason is that she doesn't have any government enterprise experience. While she possesses many relevant and applicable behavioral traits suitable for leadership, the degree of her lack of knowledge is too much to overcome.

She admits that by Donald Trump's standard, she might well surpass his credentials and qualifications. However, using Trump to lower the bar is not what citizens should want. Instead, we should be seeking much-improved candidates.

Attractive is having women and minorities seek the office of President. There are plenty of superior candidates in the universe of possibilities if they would step forward at once.

Candidate name: Orpah Gail Winfrey

Partner:   Stedman Graham (1986–present)

The kind of candidate I am:
"Winfrey says before Trump's election she thought that she didn't have the necessary government experience to run the country, but now she thinks differently. The billionaire businessman had never before held public office before his election victory in November.
Winfrey also touched on her 25 years hosting a syndicated talk show. She says her ultimate purpose of the show was to let people know that "we are more alike than we are different."

An extraordinary person, though not the best presidential candidate

Unswooned by Liar-in-Chief

Some broadcast journalists praised Donald Trump for reading a speech last night that was riddled with lies. Reverb Press, not fake news, did an analysis and here is what they found:

"Trump’s Lie-Fest
The speech itself was almost identical to his previous speeches before adoring throngs of StormTrumpers. The only difference was the lower volume and fewer insults and personal attacks. The stream of blatant falsehoods spewed throughout the address were familiar to anyone who witnessed his prior performances. For instance:
We’ve defended the borders of other nations, while leaving our own borders wide open.
Our borders are far from open and illegal crossings have declined.
Since my election, Ford, Fiat-Chrysler, General Motors, Sprint, Softbank, Lockheed, Intel, Walmart, and many others, have announced that they will invest billions of dollars in the United States and will create tens of thousands of new American jobs. The stock market has gained almost three trillion dollars in value since the election on November 8th, a record. We’ve saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars by bringing down the price of the fantastic new F-35 jet fighter.
In each of the cases listed, the jobs and investments were announced before Trump’s election. What’s more, the companies publicly refuted his involvement.
As we speak, we are removing gang members, drug dealers and criminals that threaten our communities and prey on our citizens.
Plus, he’s also removing mothers and brain surgery patients.
We are also taking strong measures to protect our Nation from Radical Islamic Terrorism. According to data provided by the Department of Justice, the vast majority of individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses since 9/11 came here from outside of our country.
What he didn’t say is that none of them were from the seven countries he included in his Muslim ban. Nor did any of them enter the U.S. illegally. Some came with their parents as children.
Ninety-four million Americans are out of the labor force.
This is highly misleading. That statistic includes millions of people who are retired, students, stay-at-home parents, or disabled.
Right now, American companies are taxed at one of the highest rates anywhere in the world. My economic team is developing historic tax reform that will reduce the tax rate on our companies so they can compete and thrive anywhere and with anyone. At the same time, we will provide massive tax relief for the middle class.
This is an often repeated lie from Trump. PolitiFact has debunked it three times. The truth is that U.S. taxes on corporations are in the lower-to-middle of the pack. And his tax reforms are overwhelmingly beneficial to the wealthy.
Obamacare is collapsing.
The Affordable Care Act is achieving record sign-ups. To the extent that it is having difficulties, it’s due to obstructionism on the part of Republicans."
http://reverbpress.com/politics/lie-trump-gives-lie-riddled-teleprompter-speech-media-falls/

Here is the problem, lying by a federal official is a crime. Any number, if not all of these alleged lies, can be proven with evidence. They are lies.

A President must tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. They may elect not to address certain topics, and that would be committing errors of omission. Such as, not addressing Russian intervention in American elections, not addressing his emolument clause violations, not releasing his tax return.

Trump's speech was void

Trump tried out for cheerleader last evening. The team cheered, some people in the stands clapped, while the majority of American voters stayed home and sat on their hands. (Is that fact, fiction, or folklore? You be the judge.)

From a foreign policy perspective, Foreign Policy Journal reported that the speech was an error by omission. Otherwise, it was void of meaningful information that is usually included by Presidents.

"FP’s Dan De Luce writes, “the inward-looking speech did not lay out any foreign policy vision, and unlike his predecessors, he did not reaffirm America’s role as leader of the free world. Trump’s hour-long speech contained no reference to Russia’s hacking of the U.S. election, its invasion of Ukraine and seizure of Crimea, China’s actions in the South China Sea, or the thousands of U.S. troops deployed in wars in Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.”
Via FP email
Trump is empty of substance that matters. However, he will assure that in his second term, he will have more details.

The Trump is empty

My American Spirit Isn't Broken

I can say that having embraced the vision to help American voters get smarter about their choices and decisions is now a life remaining ambition that is inspiring. It would be easier to reflect on Election 2016 with despair and discouragement that the Electoral College snookered the majority in numbers. However, we live for the long-run and must accept short-term setbacks.

The future of America, as always, lies with our youth. It also lies within the elasticity and capacity for people to learn and grow from mistakes.

Some things about human beings at a particular stage in development are much harder to change. Once a bigot, always a bigot. Once a misogynist, always a misogynist, and so forth.

The end game is to develop a strong majority of citizens who is enlightened and educated about their world. Evil forces work against that aim, making the need for better persons to double down on their quest for a better world.

My belief is that America needs renewing. It needs to develop a sustainable economy. The nation needs a renewable energy strategy because anything less is a dead end. Renewable energy is a catalyst for economic renewal, and that idea seems to be lost on Republicans and the President.

Our strength as a nation lies in our Constitution and democratic pluralism. That too is lost by this President and Congress.

What is broken is the present government and leadership. Even with that as a barrier, American citizens remain in charge. They can resist and oust the present regime by due process and the rule of law.

"Calling For 'Renewal Of The American Spirit,' Trump Outlines His

President Trump pushed the reset button after a rocky first month in office, delivering an on-message joint address to Congress that outlined his vision for America.
"I am here tonight to deliver a message of unity and strength, and it is a message deeply delivered from my heart," Trump said at the outset, declaring that "the torch of truth, liberty, and justice ... is now in our hands. And we will use it to light up the world."

My spirit bear

Every problem can be fixed

What President Trump got correct in his speech before Congress.

"Everything that is broken in our country can be fixed. Every problem can be solved. And every hurting family can find healing, and hope," he said."
ABC News

It is an exaggeration and generalization to say that America has unlimited capacity to solve all of its problems. The nation has certain priorities that need attending, with corresponding performance metrics.

Here is a list.

America's Priority Outcomes
(This list is the author's suggested priorities.)

  1. Nation secured economically - 100%
  2. Nation has a sustainable economy - 100%
  3. Nation secured militarily - 100%
  4. Homeland secured from terrorists - 100%
  5. Employment opportunities for all who can work - 100%
  6. Upward mobility for all who are prepared commensurate with ability - 100%
  7. All persons provided minimal sustainment as a baseline to start - 100%
  8. Social security assured for all persons - 100%
  9. Clean air and water - 100%
  10. Best education in the world - #1
  11. Freest nation in the world - #1
  12. Lowest crime rate in the world - #1 in the least crime per capita

The question for Donald Trump and the Congress is how are our top priorities going to be accomplished? Where do we stand today? How much discretionary capacity resides in the American economy?

The presumption by Donald Trump is that we cannot afford to do all that we are doing. Therefore, he is cutting by his notions. Those notions are not vetted against the facts and therefore his actions are arbitrary and present too much risk.

ABC News produced a good analysis:

"For a night, his hard edges had soft tones. From a man criticized for sometimes failing to condemn racism and anti-Semitism among his supporters, he offered a condemnation of "hate and evil in all its forms."
From a man promising a "deportation force" and decrying undocumented immigrants as killers and racists, he offered a potentially startling shift with a call for "real and positive immigration reform."
From a man who seemed to blame the death of a Navy SEAL on those who designed the raid, he offered a raw and emotional tribute to a legacy "etched into eternity."
From a man who has used his Twitter feed as an insult generator –- even after being elected president –- came an unusual declaration.
"The time for trivial fights is behind us," the president said. "From now on, America will be empowered by our aspirations, not burdened by our fears."
In that message are shades of the economic nationalism that got Trump elected –- and that he views as key to his policy successes from here.
"Americans must put its own citizens first, because only then can we truly Make America Great Again," he said."

A 'feel good' night

Give a fraud no quarter

Kindness poured from CNN this morning, being gracious to Donald Trump's change of tone. Is this a new script or new act? It is the same actor that Americans know and have seen to his heart. The core message is the same on the surface. Lurking deep is his hatred and bigotry that cannot be erased from his personal record in history. His intentions and actions cannot be trusted, not now, not ever because he is an incurable liar.

The award goes to the speechwriters and not to the ungifted actor.

"For once, this most unorthodox of politicians struck a conventional presidential posture as he sought to stabilize his administration after a tumultuous five weeks in office.
Though his language was more lofty and unifying than normal, Trump gave little quarter on the substance of his policies on issues ranging from trade, defense, immigration, and counterterrorism. The result was a populist, nationalistic prescription that he said would yield "a new chapter of American greatness."
7 in 10 Speech-Watchers Say Trump Boosted Optimism
"From now on, America will be empowered by our aspirations, not burdened by our fears, inspired by the future, not bound by failures of the past, and guided by a vision, not blinded by our doubts," Trump said, from the Speaker's rostrum in the House of Representatives."

Republicans in Congress might well cry, "Let him out!" Democrats counter, "GITMO or bust!"

Let me in.
