When Research Undermines Its Purpose

There is a story today by Pew Research that says the “media” are harder on Trump than past Presidents. They added up the negative stories and reported that finding. They didn’t consider that fact that Donald Trump is despicable and deplorable and served up a pile of negatives.

The fact that Pew let this go as is makes this independent journalist look elsewhere for more credible research. This is bunk, not on the facts, but on the meaning and interpretation that is deficient.

“The Pew Research Center looked at media reports about the Trump presidency in the first three months of the administration and concluded:

• 62 percent of the stories had a negative assessment, with just 5 percent having a positive assessment.
• 20 percent of the stories in President Barack Obama's first three months were negative.
• 28 percent of the stories in President George W. Bush's first three months were negative.
• 28 percent of the stories in President Bill Clinton's first three months were negative.
• 56 percent of stories about the Trump administration appearing in media outlets with a left-leaning audience were negative, compared to 14 percent in media outlets with a right-leaning audience.
• 66 percent of all news stories regarding the Trump administration were about these five topics:
• Political skills (17 percent).
• Immigration (14 percent).
• Appointments/nominations (13 percent).
• U.S.-Russia relations (13 percent).
• and healthcare (9 percent).

 Other studies have come up with similar results, including a Media Research Center study that concluded the three major broadcast networks' coverage of the Trump administration was 89 percent negative.”

It is because Donald Trump and the Republican Party have hijacked American democracy.

Bad actions produce negative reports.

Rein in President Trump

Republicans in Congress must rein in their President at once. Better still, they should impeach him.

When a President goes public in Twitter messaging, undermining Secretary of State Tillerson who is attempting to avert nuclear war with North Korea, that is across the line of appropriate behavior. Furthermore, it created unnecessary risk in a delicate diplomatic situation.

North Korea already knows where Donald Trump stands with regard to its rogue government and leader. Piling on doesn’t help at all.

America is supposed to be the mature government in this situation and responsible representative in the free-world. Call Trump a dotard or a blowhard, his performance as a President of the United States is inappropriate and unforgivable.

Republicans should understand that they are on their last leg as a party now, and being responsible for the nuclear conflict in North Korea will make them as toasty as Trump declares America will do to North Korea.

The nation is headed toward disaster with Donald Trump as President.
