This morning, Trump met with UK trade representatives following a late-night call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He announced a very big deal. Here is the context. The UK is a nation with which the US has a trade surplus. Trump attacked them anyway with a 10% tariff.
Now, we hear he wants the UK to export more UK-made cars to the US. That would be more Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, and Land Rovers. My Land Rover friends will be relieved to know they can still get parts. What does it mean for Americans? Nothing of significance, except Trump promises the UK more steel exports, too.
However, there are no details, and the event is premature and a suck-up session to make Trump feel good. The Brits are happy to oblige.
Fact: "The deal leaves in place a 10% U.S. tariff on goods imported from the UK, while Britain agreed to lower its duties to 1.8% from 5.1% and provide greater access to U.S. goods." CNN
What is that giant sucking sound?
