At What Point Do Statesmen Take a Stand?

Americans should be repulsed into action, having witnessed the outrageous behavior and performance of Donald Trump as President. Are they?

The polls show that most Americans favor any leading Democratic candidate over Donald Trump. That does not answer the question to what extent are they outraged and angered to the point of resisting, rejecting, and revolting?

Most media reports consistently say that President Trump's authoritarian behavior imperils democracy. A few Republicans hint as much, though most incumbents are content to go along with Trump.

If America is on the brink of losing the qualities of the democratic republic and rule of law, then one might expect more. For instance, why would not all of the former living Presidents stand as one to encourage Congress to impeach the President?

If it is as bad as Joe Scarborough routinely reports, then where are the Statesmen coming to the rescue?

There is at least one, and that is Elizabeth Warren.

He has boasted that his poll numbers are greater than Lincoln’s, though there were no opinion polls in the 19th century. And yet, to ward off criticisms of Trump’s bursts of racist rhetoric, Republican leaders reflexively play the Lincoln card. “We are the party of Lincoln,” proclaimed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to shield Trump with the icon of the Great Emancipator.

But the party of Trump is the antithesis of the party of Lincoln, the culmination of a long realignment. Beginning in the 1960s, the party embraced a Southern strategy, forsaking the remnants of its Lincolnesque heritage in exchange for the principles of states’ rights and resistance to civil rights for African Americans previously associated with the neo-Confederate Dixiecrat wing of the Democratic Party. As a result, the Republican Party changed its identity and abandoned its original principles, becoming strikingly similar to the very opponents that roused Lincoln to resist in the beginning."

Trump's Unlawful Attempt to Investigate Biden's Son

According to reports from the New York Times and the Daily Beast, President Trump suggested that the Ukraine President initiate an investigation into Presidential Candidate Joe Biden's son. This conversation included an apparent quid pro quo implication that hinged Trump (the US) providing foreign aid to Ukraine. 

A whistleblower inside the National Security Agency immediately reported this conversation between Trump and the Ukraine President to the Inspector General. The reason is that co-mingling foreign policy, and domestic politics is inappropriate and illegal.

Biden's son, Hunter, had a relationship with the Ukrainian natural-gas company Burisma Holdings in 2014 when his father was Vice President.

The circumstances were investigated by Politifact and reported as follows:

The fact is that Donald Trump is caught directing a foreign government to dig up dirt on his opponent's son. That is the scandal at hand. Trump is trying to retaliate for what happened to his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Unlike Hunter Biden, Manafort broke the law and is found guilty.

This act, if disclosed by the Inspector General and shared lawfully with Congress, is one more reason why Donald Trump should be impeached before the next election.

Needed, a Democratic Party Platform

In my book, A President's Manifesto (c) 2019 All Rights Reserved, I pointed to a systemic problem. That is, a political party must publish a platform that is the foundation of its political brand. Candidates who profess to adopt the brand through party membership should write manifestos that explain how they intend to implement the platform with attention to details in two four-year terms. 

What citizens witness now is that the Democratic Party leadership failed to publish a platform. Now, candidates are debating on an unstable foundation without it.

Tom Perez has failed to lead the timely development of the platform. Now, it is too late to repair the damage. The consequence is the brawl that we see in "debates." The public spectacles include personal attacks that distract from attention to the details and are inappropriate.

Further, the Democratic Party failed to produce a profile of qualities, resumes, and credentials for a presidential candidate. There is no party standard against which voters can assess. The party has failed to vet candidates properly.

Republicans are no different. 

American voters are flying blind at the peril of the democratic republic that is under siege by right-wing authoritarians and oligarchs. 

Democrats have weakened their chances with the party failing to do its job.

Impeach Trump and McConnell

Impeachment is long overdue. It takes a long time for the American public to comprehend how President Trump and the Republican Party have defrauded them.

A Republican party that represents only the top 1-5% of the nation economically doesn't have the votes to win elections.

How did they get to 45% and enough electoral votes to secure the office and to control Congress?

Their strategy is to appeal to vulnerable groups.

1. Appeal to Christians and evangelicals
1.1 Use abortion as an emotional issue to attract a following
1.2 Pretend to align with conservative faithful some of which their leaders have conned their flock and blurred the lines between politics and religion

2. Appeal to gun owners in rural areas
2.1 Portray government the enemy and a threat to their freedom
2.2 Promise they will get their old jobs back in the fossil fuel industry and steel production

3. Appeal to rural towns and villages that are isolated and where the population is unenlightened and ignorant
3.1 CItizens in segregated areas fail to realize the benefits of diversification
3.2 Segregated communities are a breeding ground for bigotry and discrimination
3.3 These characteristics are exploited by irresponsible Republicans who need a broader constituency

4. Portray capitalism and free markets as the best economic model
4.1 Doing so protects the wealthy
4.2 Make taxation and government the enemy
4.3 Con the middle class and deplorable into believing their policies benefit them the most

5. Portray the free-press as the enemy
5.1 Pretend that only the GOP and President tell the truth
5.2 Deny and deflect all criticism
5.3 Invent the idea of "fake news" and attribute it to the mainstream media while they embrace the invention infiltrated by Russians and other enemies

The fact is, the corrupt Trump regime has inflicted tremendous damage to the US Democratic Republic. They have done so through executive actions and judicial appointments.

The first act of patriotic Americans is to impeach leaders who have betrayed their oaths of office. The second act is to prosecute them.

Most important is to vote for new representatives.

Trump Hate and Violence Culture

The President of the United States has blood on his hands.  He has stirred the pot of racism, nationalism, white supremacism, and violence. Trump and his go-along crowd of Republicans have cultivated and permitted a deadly trend.

The US House of Representatives has tended to the business of government by passing laws and regulations to help society. The US Senate, led by Mitch McConnell, has blocked nearly all of it. He has even blocked efforts to protect voters from foreign interference in elections.

The Trump regime has been rogue from the outset. Now, the consequences are becoming more evident by the moment.

Crazy men with guns are shooting up America. Congress has permitted people to buy assault weapons and to buy weapons without proper controls or restrictions altogether. America is a dangerous place everywhere.

What appears to be a healthy economy isn't either. Trump and Republicans have permitted wealthy Americans and Corporations to rob the bank and rob the trust of middle-class Americans. They are stealing the future by failing to pay their fair share of taxes.

Trump and Republicans are at war with the democratic republic, and Trump must be impeached for crimes he committed in broad daylight.

Does this sound right?

Stephen Miller, vocation, American speechwriter, a 33-year-old graduate from Duke University, 2007 is calling the shots at the White House. He's a radical right-wing conservative who was communications director for Senator Jeff Sessions and Representative, Michele Bachmann.

His resume is woefully inadequate, though Trump has permitted him to have free rein in matters of policy that undermine the democratic republic.

He doesn't represent me. I did not elect him. Does he represent you?

Anyone Except Trump

There are stellar choices among the too-long a list of Democrats for President. Employ the process I recommend in my book, How to Select an American President by James A. George and James A. Rodger (c) 2017 Archway Publishing.  The best emerge as a product of your consideration and scoring.

Defeating the incumbent requires the strongest resume and character as well as a debater. Cutting to the chase, Joe Biden scored the highest in 2016 because he was Barack Obama's Vice President. He has an excellent resume of experience. Accompanying that is a legislative legacy with which he must live with pros and cons.

Today, Joe Biden has lost his advantage because he is too tired. I am passing on Biden as a first choice in favor of Elizabeth Warren. Her resume is solid, and she has the will, stamina, integrity, and talent to take on Trump. She has legislative details expressed as her presidential manifesto.

Kamala Harris is also a contender. However, her resume lacks the bench strength of Warren.

Others include Julian Castro and Corey Booker among several white male candidates whose time is not now.

The biggest disappointment is that neither the Democratic nor Republican Parties have published a current Platform as a baseline against which candidates present their manifestos. The debate and selection process suffers from that deficiency.
