Tax cut talk is nonsense

Like most everything that Donald Trump and Republicans address, the “tax cut” talk is another deceptive distraction. They want to give tax cuts to their wealthy patrons and corporations under the failed theory of trickle-down economics.

“Bruce Bartlett, who served as a domestic policy adviser to Reagan during the 1980s, wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post on Thursday, alleging that ‘Republican rhetoric around tax cutting’ amounts to ‘wishful thinking.’”

The evidence demonstrates that there is no relationship between tax policy “with regard to the top tax rates and the size of the economic pie."

Instead, the discussion should be about how the nation is going to produce a sustainable economy with a good life for all citizens in the absence of poverty. To accomplish that, the nation must repair the deplorably damaged political system and government that begins with a purge of the incumbents.

To be successful, a nation must have a sustainable economy; something the United States of America does not have in place.

James A. George and James A. Rodger suggest attributes for a new economic model that advocates sustainable capitalism. The model embraces the Genuine Progress Indicator and triple bottom-line accounting.

The authors explore important topics, including:
• causes of the global economic crisis during the presidency of George W. Bush;
• insights on how President Donald Trump?s administration is approaching economic problems;
• ways all citizens can work together to ensure we meet our optimum potential; and
• strategies to achieve balance among economic, social, and environmental needs.
While most people think that sustainable economics is all about climate change, the authors take a much broader view, noting that without economic security, there can be no military security and no homeland security.

America has enjoyed prosperity, but too many citizens continue to live in poverty. We can all earn a better return on our national resources by educating ourselves and Regenerating America with Sustainable Economics.

A solution to madmen in charge: Korea and America

The question posed by an FB friend and blog reader warrants an essay reply.

Prescott Lunt asked, “What's your solution to this Korean Madman? He doesn't listen to anybody, just keeps testing and blowing things up, until he finally sends one our way. We have a President who needs to sharpen his listening skills and diplomacy and choice of words with this Madman before it's an irretrievable situation.”

First, let’s define the problems.

1.     America is led by a flawed and possibly illegal President and the regime that was installed by suspicious circumstances that are under investigation by a Special Prosecutor.
2.     The Republican-controlled Congress has repeatedly compromised its integrity through acts of obstructing justice and impeding the investigation.
3.     Both political parties are in disarray, the actions by the sitting government have undermined the rule of law and Constitution as due process and the Court is addressing.
4.     North Korea has been a persistent enemy of the free-world, acting as a rogue state.
5.     North Korea would not exist as a nation without the support from China and Russia who protect the regime.
6.     North Korea is protected by China and Russia as a means to maintain a balance of power in the Asian region.
7.     North Korea is now led by a Supreme Leader and government that has succeeded in developing nuclear weapons and delivery systems.
8.     North Korea has launched ICBMs flying over international waters and our allied nations including Japan.

America’s North Korean enemy is an enemy of the free world. The American President and government must work to maintain support from allies to isolate North Korea economically and militarily.

North Korea’s progress in developing nuclear weapons has reached a crisis stage whereby the rogue state not only tests weapons but threatens to use them on an overt war against the US and allies.

President Donald Trump disrupted diplomacy in the matter and increased the war of words that have real consequences in pushing North Korea to react and respond militarily.

Actions by the Trump administration have nudged China to increase sanctions, however, Trump may have spooked China with his irresponsible and reckless words and actions that made matters worse.

The solution to the situation requires several parts.

1.     The Republican Party in concert with the Democrats needs to impeach Donald Trump for both high crimes and misdemeanors as well as incompetence and unsuitable performance.
2.     The combined leadership of statesmen must reform a temporary government with a call for a new Presidential election.
3.     The interim government must work in collaboration with allies to isolate North Korea, though it must also offer a way forward.
4.     Allies must negotiate for the dismantling and removal of all nuclear weapon capability in North Korea in exchange for economic trade and assistance.
5.     Allies must use all available means to communicate directly to the North Korean population to inform them that the people are not the enemy of the free-world, but their leadership is the problem.

6.     Allies must appeal to North Koreans for regime change.

Step #1

Not Federalism versus Socialism

Republicans like Lindsay Graham frame the Obamacare debates as being Federalism versus Socialism. That is a distraction.

The purpose of government is to address citizens’ shared needs that emanate from necessities. One is affordable healthcare. No Americans should be without an acceptable level of quality healthcare.

No Americans should live in poverty. All Americans deserve a good life.

I explain these things in my new book, Regenerating America with Sustainable Economics © Archway Publishing. Please read it and then share your opinion.

Scaring people by using the word “socialism” doesn’t cut it. That is not thinking.

We are not debating general styles of government, we are arguing social responsibility, environmental responsibility, and economic responsibility, in balance.

Will Republicans turn Monday into a debate on single-payer?
If ObamaCare is not repealed, Graham says the U.S. will head toward a single-payer system.
“It’s coming down to a choice between Federalism vs. Socialism,” Graham tweeted Monday morning. “I chose federalism.”
Graham will likely put a big focus on Sanders’s “Medicare for all" bill, which he recently introduced with the support of 16 of his Democratic colleagues — though not Klobuchar.
Sanders is more likely to defend the Affordable Care Act than seeking to tout his bill.
“The focus is going to be on exposing Graham-Cassidy as the most destructive piece of legislation in the modern history of our country,” a Sanders aide told The Hill.
He will be “defending the ACA, as he has for the last nine months.”
