Once again, world leaders call to address the Palestinian and Israelis conflict. Created in the year of my birth was Israel. For many reasons, I have an affinity with and concern for the regional contest. For Americans to address the sectarian struggle in the context of cries for human rights and democracy rings with challenged credibility and hypocrisy.
I mean, America is barely clinging to a democratic republic in which political insurgents attack democracy and whose oaths are compromised by corruption and a conflict of interest.
Who are we to cast the first stone? Who are we to offer a way forward? We had tried before, so many times, and failed.
The starting position now is much different than other moments along the timeline. Israel is a mature and competent state, where Palestinian leadership remains unstable. Palestinians exist as enclaves surrounded by Israel. The notion of a two-state solution seems absurd, as does apartheid.
If Israel is a democracy, and if it supports human rights as defined in the "Universal Declaration," then Arabs and Jews living in the state should coexist peacefully.
The goal should be Arabs and Jews living together in a democratic state of Israel.
