Florence: A young woman whose name graced pottery Paperback – January 22, 2022

On a cold day in January, I published Florence, a young woman whose name graced pottery. This book is a true story about a girl raised in Edison, Morrow County, Ohio, who died tragically. Her death is only part of the story as I follow the Haserodt family as entrepreneurs, community leaders, and geniuses. While Grant Haserodt created work for hundreds of citizens, he and his family paid a heavy price.

To tell the story as accurately as possible, I needed assistance. It came from Donna Carver, a local history advocate, and historian. It came from a community leader and banker, Ed Kline, who shared memories from his father. The star of the show is Renee Brose Hall, a direct descendent of Grant Haserodt, her grandfather, and the grandniece of Florence Haserodt.

Renee Brose Hall's mother, Marjorie Haserodt Brose, shared her memories in words and artifacts that added much detail and understanding. Renee shared insight into possible conspiracy theories surrounding multiple tragedies, including murder and fire. Using tools from Ancestry.com, I validated and verified much information.

This story has all the earmarks for becoming a Netflix dramatic series. You can read it first.

A Political Rock and a Hard Place

Today, I saw an old geezer who wore a "Veteran for Trump" baseball cap. I had terrible thoughts of aggression toward him, so I avoided contact throughout the store. I am a veteran, except I would never trade my allegiance to my democratic nation for loyalty to an authoritarian who led an insurrection and sought to suppress votes. That is unacceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

During the Covid Omicron epidemic in our community, I wore a mask. He didn't. That figures. He is obstinate and disrespectful, a fraudulent patriot. I am not.

I want to see a Republican Party that regains its senses and compassion. I believe in prudent sustainable economics, and I think Republicans can contribute to that. However, as long as they are on the side of insurrection and anti-government, they don't deserve consideration.

I don't believe the Democratic Party is doing themselves a favor by hanging onto old-guard leadership. I am whispering to Democratic leaders that I know, pleading for them to ask Biden to forgo another term in office. I want a new team, and Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar are good alternatives, among others.

It's past time for Americans to kick their ideological habits and align with putting America first.

Lock Him Up

Only two Republicans attended the Insurrection Memorial Service in the House of Representatives; today is a declaration of the continuing war between Democrats and Republicans. (Liz and Dick Cheney showed up.)

Republicans' refusal to submit to the facts and their continuing to follow Donald J. Trump is not only a disservice to the integrity of the Republican Party. It is an insult to the American democratic republic.

The Democratic leadership doesn't enthrall me, though the presence of Republicans in government who are failing to uphold their oath and allegiance to the Constitution accosts us all.

I demand change—leaders to come forward to fight for the preservation of democracy and equal rights for all.

President Biden laid down the gauntlet today as AG Garland did yesterday. I support our officials who will take down Trump and his conspirators and lock them up.

I ask former President Obama to organize a leadership search to identify who can bubble up.

I personally like Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar, along with the Castros. Adam Schiff and Pete Buttigieg are not to be ignored; nor is Elizabeth Warren.

Beto O’Rourke has made a play for Governor. If he wins and performs well in office, he will become a strong contender. I like the future for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib.

Kirsten Gillibrand needs to be a stronger voice. Her credentials are excellent.

Gavan Newsome is a possible VP candidate to deliver California.
