Candidates alignment with party platforms

In my books in progress, I address the importance in considering a candidate's alignment with their political party. Loyalty, allegiance, and alignment go hand-in-hand. One cannot represent party constituents if their manifesto is misaligned with their party's platform.

A party platform is a slate of foundational ideas and values that represent a political party's brand toward supporting the US Constitution and political system.

A candidate's manifesto is a more specific instance of how the political party's platform will be made actionable and operational during a candidates prospective incumbency. A candidate's manifesto is made operational through a presidential agenda, plans, programs, schedules, and budgets.

In the American political system, the leading party's incumbent must negotiate with Congress in the implementation of the presidential agenda that is an extension of his or her party. The process requires bipartisan collaboration and consensus to the extent that voters produce a diversely populated House and Senate.

When you read that the Speaker of the House "treads carefully with Trump," that says that the relationship between the Speaker and the prospective president is tentative at best.

"Ryan treads carefully with Trump
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is the chairman of the Republican National Convention, but don’t expect him to give Donald Trump a full-throated endorsement when he steps on stage in Cleveland."
