VP Selection Process

The Vice Presidential selection process should drive voters as crazy as does the Presidential selection process. One reason is that voters do not have a hands-on stake in the method. In Election 2016, they may feel the same way about the Presidential selection too.

Sticking with a discussion about vice presidential choices, voters witness two presidential nominees one of which could still face an indictment by the FBI for email-related infractions that is Hillary Clinton. The other, Donald Trump, is the GOP candidate that many in his party do not want and won't accept.

Conventions may determine the outcomes that could be different than what the primaries indicate.

In the event of Clinton selecting a VP nominee, her choice is unlikely to be her immediate opponent, Bernie Sanders. If it is Elizabeth Warren or someone else, how would that reconcile of Clinton is indicted? Would the party be better served by her choice for VP or the primaries runner-up, Sanders?

Who will Trump select for his VP? He could surprise everyone and just pick a family member. Trump could pick Chris Christie or Newt Gingrich. He could even pick Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann. If his party doesn't accept him, his VP choice will be damaged goods.

Then again, Mitt Romney could return to select Paul Ryan.

"Veep auditions in overdrive
They’ve been popping up on the Sunday talk shows, taking part in high-profile protests, and hitting the campaign trail alongside the presumptive presidential nominees.

With the Cleveland and Philadelphia conventions around the corner, those auditioning for vice president are raising their national profile and showcasing the talents and experience they could bring to a GOP or Democratic ticket."
