Republican's debate degrees of conservatism

Republicans are remarkably out of step with mainstream Americans.

At a Wall Street Journal-sponsored luncheon, Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan said that he believed the Donald Trump is a conservative, just not his kind of conservative. First off, are American voters asking for a "black-belt." in conservatism as a criterion for the presidency. To this analyst, that is a distracting topic. However, it shows how far off base Republicans are from connecting with the American middle class and poor who want a functional government.

"Ryan and Trump have had their differences throughout the 2016 campaign cycle. The Speaker, who was the party's vice presidential nominee in 2012, has rejected some of Trump’s more extreme statements and positions: Ryan called Trump’s proposed ban on Muslim immigration “unconstitutional,” blasted his attacks on a Mexican-American judge as “racist,” and chided the candidate for refusing to quickly disavow support from a white supremacist."

The Republican Party is clearly divided between radicalized extremist bigots and more moderate members who might truly want to gain reelection. American voters don't want radicalized extremists as much as they want a government that provides essential services in the context of a sustainable economy with protection at home and abroad.
