Ending Trump's carnage

Michael Moore spoke to marching women in Washington, "We are here to vow to end the Trump carnage!" I am a fan of Michael Moore's films and good intentions. However, that is as far as it goes because the handoff from Moore to Democratically-elected politicians inevitably led to dropped balls and children dying from contaminated drinking water.

I have consistently charged that Democratic representatives are people who espouse good intentions but lack the competence to follow through. They know that they can get elected saying familiar things even when Democrats know that they can't garner the majority of Congress to go along. Eventually, the record of broken promises caught up with them, and that is where we are today with Donald Trump and a Republican-controlled Congress.

The same might be said for political independents who garner a share of votes around popular themes even when they know they can't enact legislation to support them.

Now, Donald Trump, a masterful propagandist, has embraced the strategy of telling people what they want to hear, as a cover for him to do what he wants. What will be the consequences of his authoritarian actions? Given a short rope, he will hurt people, most of which are his low-on-the-economic-totem pole followers. When they feel the pain and suffering, then there will be a backlash.

Before that, however, the popular majority of Americans can act to limit and prevent the damage. Using the power of due process and the law, citizens can contain, halt, and impeach Donald Trump and his regime. There is sufficient evidence in play right now to build the case. Needed is cooperation from the FBI and Intel Services, not to work against Trump, but to work for the people in exposing the truth about him, no matter what it is.

Needed is to know if anything in his tax returns shows unresolved conflicts or contain evidence of consorting with Russians, for instance. Needed is to know if people in his campaign, on his team, had conflicting relationships with foreign powers.

Since we already know that Russians hacked the Democratic Party with the intention to expose information that could impact the election outcome, that alone demands independent investigation. Furthermore, actions by FBI Director Comey point to his being careless or otherwise compromising in how he handled sensitive information.

Given the history of America discriminating against women and minorities, it matters now more than ever that the Democratic Party embrace women leadership to reinvent the party immediately.

If that is what Michael Moore is clamoring for, I support that.
