Rewriting the History Book

Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell doomed the Forefather's Vision for the US Senate.

With the elimination of the filibuster and 60 votes requirement for approving appointments, the Republican-controlled US Senate just destroyed the Founding Fathers vision for differentiating the Senate from the House. The Senate was intended to be bipartisan and collaborative, and now that dynamic is ruined forever.

It happened at the hand of Senator Mitch McConnell. However, he didn't do it alone. The erosion of the large majority vote requirement began with actions by the Democrat-controlled Senate led by Harry Reid. The combination of these leaders and politics undermined the US Constitution and the American Political System. Their names should be remembered in the harshest terms by historians.

In my book, How to Select an American President by James A. George with James A. Rodger (c) 2017 Archway Publishing, I will have to make a revision when it comes to discussing the Senate.

The Senate triggered the nuclear option to seat Justice Gorsuch. The jury has yet to be seated in the case against Donald Trump that might one day make this appointment moot.

"The nuclear option is a parliamentary procedure that allows the U.S. Senate to override a rule or precedent by a simple majority of 51 votes, instead of by a supermajority of 60 votes."
