If Donald Trump had not won the presidency without help from the Russians and without being a racist bigot, there might be a different story now. The trouble is he didn't win legitimately.
The FBI investigators have their hands all over the Trump staff as they process security clearances.
Trump's promise to staff The White House with the best isn't honest at all. He can't get nominees and appointees to pass security clearance requirements. Among them is his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
His personal secretary was dismissed for having allegedly beaten his two former wives. One part of the problem is that The White House knew about Porter's past and intended to let it go with a presidential override. That doesn't work in a democracy like ours with due process and the rule of law.
While it is clear that some forty persons are having trouble with their clearances, the big story is this. The FBI is in possession of all those applications. They are investigating all of the information on them including financial information that might show conflicts of interest. The FBI is following Jared Kushner's money.
It might be a good thing for Donald Trump Jr. that he didn't apply for a clearance.
"Donald Trump Jr. is expected to appear at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, after coming under fire for reportedly attending a meeting with at least two Russian individuals during his father's presidential campaign. At the time of the meeting, Trump Jr. worked closely with his father's campaign, but he has no official position in the Trump administration. As a result, Trump Jr. likely doesn't have a security clearance or access to classified information within his father's White House."

What about Ivanka's clearance you may wonder? First, I wonder how she got one because being married to someone who may have conflicts undermines her getting a pass? Did it happen and how?
ReplyDelete"A key member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has joined a chorus of congressional Democrats calling for Ivanka Trump’s security clearance to be reviewed because her failure to fully divest herself from her business empire poses serious potential for conflicts of interest."
