Political Parties Are A Problem
Washington Had It Right
George Washington objected to the creation of political parties. He believed that candidates for elected office should stand on their merit as might be espoused in declarations of how they intend to support the Constitution through their offices. I call them manifestos. Indeed, history students will discover that many, if not most, of the “Founders” did just that.
The notion of political parties was to organize like-kind sentiments, whereas there are differences in the degree to which government should have control in a free society.
The idea of a nation-state is to create an optimal environment where citizens can maximize their productivity for their own good and the greater society. Debates begin when some people don’t acknowledge that American democracy is a public-private collaboration. This includes those who fail to understand that capitalism is not allegiant to democracy. In fact, unmitigated capitalism can destroy it.
